Sunrider has been part of my life since around 2000. I had not been married long, and I had started having some health problems which would eventually lead to my diagnosis of Ulcerative Colitis. A friend of mine suggested I try some Sunrider foods, so I did. She also introduced me to Dr Karen Spencer Dees, who is my current doctor of nutrition. At the time we all lived in the same area, so over time I learned a lot about Sunrider foods from Dr Dees. I loved it and it helped; however, life happened so I wasn't consistent with the products. I became a patient of Dr. Dees sometime around the end of 2002 or beginning of 2003. I had a pretty significant flare up and desperately needed help. On a side note Toby and I wanted children but that had not happened up to this point. I know that seems random, but it will make sense in a bit.

So, by this time Dr. Dees lives in the Boston area and works with infertility patients at Stanford. She tells me how to change my diet and suggests which Sunrider products will be helpful. for my UC. She knew we wanted children, so one day she told me that she was going to help me get well and also help get my body ready for a baby. In the middle of a flare up I was probably just thinking, well okay.... I was hopeful though.

I started seeing improvements very quickly, and in no time I was in remission. Meanwhile an opportunity falls into our laps to adopt a baby. I honestly cannot tell you how all of that came about. I just remember receiving a call asking if we would be interested, and we were. We worked to get all necessary paperwork done and turned in. I had always dreamed of adopting. My health was better and we were possibly about to adopt a baby. Life was great!!

We get the call saying the birth mother wants to meet us for an interview. We are one of about 5 couples, so to say we are excited would be an understatement. Meanwhile, while making these arrangements I begin to be completely exhausted. I am so tired and I am thinking I must be needing an iron infusion, so I head to the hematologist only to find out my blood levels are in range. While I am sitting there waiting for the doctor to finish it becomes perfectly clear to me. I think I am pregnant. Yep!! I was correct. We have a baby on the way. Dr Dees did just what she said she would do.

At this point we withdrew our name from the adoption process to leave this opportunity for couples who were not able to conceive and have their own biological children. It couldn't have turned out more perfectly. We had a beautiful baby girl and the sweet baby needing a forever home was adopted by a couple we know, so from a distance we now get to watch her grow and be loved.

I give God the glory for the healing my body did, for the beautiful baby girl who was the beginning of 3 beautiful baby girls for us, and the journey we experienced along the way to this point.

My second time seeing Dr. Dees as a patient was around 2013. My colitis flared and went into a downward spiral very quickly. It was much worse than I had ever experienced, and I was beginning to have more and more problems as a result of the UC. I began talking to Dr Dees again and started consuming Sunrider products as if my life depended on it. Well, I guess it kind of did. Sunrider products are highly concentrated, whole food nutrition; feeding my body on a cellular level and helping all 5 systems work together just the way God intended them to do. I do still take meds that help prevent my immune system from attacking my colon, but with better nutrition I feel so much better and I am doing so well now!! My colitis symptoms have improved, my blood levels are great, my energy level is up, I have fewer headaches, it helps me control my weight, and I am gaining muscle. Yes, that's correct. I have actually gained muscle mass from eating Sunrider. I now refer to Sunrider as "my life support", and the great thing is Toby and the girls can enjoy it too and reap the benefits as well.

So, this is my Sunrider story and how good nutrition changed my life. After this there is a semicolon; because now my story is to help others. Nutrition is key in changing your health, feeling good and getting your life back. I am not a doctor of any kind, so I make no attempts to diagnose or any promises to cure. I only want to help others find better health just like someone helped me years ago.
